In today’s world, we all are successful. We all are rich and are able to fulfill our desires. Though it takes some time for all of us, we still are ambitious and hopeful for the future. Moreover, we tend to have only those people around us who we think are like minded as us. Meaning, we only like to be around those people who feel like they might be helpful to us in some ways.

However, do you remember

  • the times when our parents did not ask us to not to play with a certain kid in the neighborhood just because “his parents are not as well off as us”?
  • the times when one scraped knee and a broken doll moved more stone hearts than luxurious smartphones and tablets?
  • the times when love was behind closed doors and without parents not knowing?

Don’t you think we all have become too busy that we forgot our own selves? That we do not know that in this mad race to have money, we have sold our calmness, peace and mental stability?

I remember we used to study this poem by W.H.Davies in the fifth standard. This along with “stopping by the woods on a snowy evening” remains my favorite poems till date. I wonder how many of us remember this even now…

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this is if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

This still reminds me that we have a soul, a child inside us who is wanting to break free. I am jealous of my previous generation as they were more free to try out things and have their own minds. WE, on the other hand, have become slaves of machines. I wonder if four to five generations after, the humans will evolve to such an extent than the sunlight will be foreign to the skin..!!
